These large print word searches use an 11 × 11 grid with letters about 29 points tall on US Letter paper, and an 18-point word bank (our standard puzzles use 11 point). What makes these large print?
Three things, all measured on the printed page. The grid is 11 × 11 rather than 14 × 14 or bigger, so each square is about 44 points (16 mm) across. Each letter fills two-thirds of its square, so it prints about 29 points tall on US Letter and 31 on A4. And the word bank under the grid is set at 18 point. Fewer, bigger letters mean less hunting along crowded rows.
Which themes are in the set?
Birds, flowers, baking and the seaside, with three puzzles each. The words are everyday ones like ROBIN, DAISY, MUFFIN and LIGHTHOUSE, and none is longer than ten letters. Words run left to right, top to bottom and along the two forward diagonals, but never backwards.
Can I make my own large print word search?
Yes — open the word search generator and switch on Large print. It limits the grid to 14 × 14, draws bigger letters, sets the word bank at 18 point and shows the printed letter size as you change the grid. A list of family names or favourite places makes a personal puzzle to bring on a visit.
