How is a word search generated?
The generator places your words into the grid one at a time, longest first, trying random positions and directions until each fits. Words may overlap where they share letters, which makes the grid denser and trickier. The remaining cells are filled with random letters biased toward the letters in your words, so the grid is not trivially scannable. Every placement is recorded as the answer key.
Which directions can the words go?
Easy puzzles use horizontal and vertical forwards only. Medium adds diagonals. Hard uses all eight directions, including backwards and reverse-diagonal. You choose the direction set in the generator, so you can match the puzzle to your class.
Can I use my own word list?
Yes — that is the point of the generator. Type or paste any list, choose the grid size and difficulty, and print. It is ideal for weekly spelling lists, topic vocabulary and themed party games, and every puzzle downloads with its answer key.
